- Virginia Conference's New 16-District Configuration

Remington UMC will leave the Alexandria District on 1 July 2011 and become part of the new Fredericksburg District within the Virginia Conference.  This change is a result of the Virginia Conference changing from an 18-District configuration to a new 16-District configuration.

Remington is not the only church affected by the change.  All the United Methodist churches in Southern Fauquier will be joining the new district.  The churches are:  Grace UMC,  Liberty UMC, Midland UMC, Morrisville UMC, Mount Horeb UMC, Remington UMC, Trinity UMC, and Wesleyan UMC.

The new Fredericksburg District encompasses 62 charges with a total of 76 churches located in the following counties:  Caroline (8), Essex (4), Fauquier (8), Fredericksburg (2), King & Queen (2), King George (3), King William (2), Lancaster (6), Northumberland (11), Richmond (4), Spotsylvania (8),

Stafford (8) and Westmoreland (10).  The number in parentheses indicates the number of churches from each county.   The map outlines the new Fredericksburg District (red line).

Four Central Fauquier churches previously in the Winchester District will move to the redesigned Alexandria District:  Warrenton UMC, Bethel UMC, Orlean UMC, and Wesley Chapel.

The six United Methodist Churches in Northern Fauquier will remain in the redesigned Winchester District:  Cool Spring UMC, Linden UMC, Markham UMC, Marshall UMC, Rectortown UMC, and St. Mark’s UMC.

The new Fredericksburg District Superintendent is the Rev. Ted Smith, and the district office is in Ladysmith, VA.
